Watertown native Mike Kulegian wasn’t particularly into music until he attended his first Ryan Cabrera concert at age 18 in Boston.

“I was just completely blown away by the atmosphere — the sounds and the lights and everything,” said Kulegian, 20. “The next day I was like that’s what I want to do.”

So Kulegian, a 2006 Watertown High School grad who now lives in Los Angeles, committed to learning how to sing, playing the guitar and writing music.

With the help of some Boston area musicians he will be coming out with his first album — a four-track solo album — in March.

The album, titled “Welcome to the Breakdown!” will be available on iTunes and select online stores, including Amazon.com and Smartpunk.com.

One of the songs, “Let me in,” can be now be heard on Kulegian’s MySpace page, at www.myspace.com/mikeyjamesmusic.

His music is a mixture of rock, pop, electric guitar, synthesizers, vocals, blues influences and ‘80s rocks influences.

“I don’t try to focus on one type of sound,” Kulegian, who goes by the stage name Mikey James, said from his parents’ Carroll Street home in Watertown Monday.
